Our 5-day bird-watching tour takes you on a journey through some of Morocco’s most breathtaking landscapes of Northern Morocco, from the towering Rif mountains and enchanting cities like Chefchaouen (the Blue city), to the coastal marshes of the northern Atlantic coast. Our expert guide will lead you to some of the best bird-watching spots in the region, where you’ll have the chance to see a variety of species including House bunting, Red-knobbed coast, and Moustached warbler, and many more bird species and other nature!

Our 7-day bird-watching tour takes you on a journey through some of Morocco’s most breathtaking landscapes, from the towering High Atlas Mountains to the arid deserts of Ouarzazate and Boumalne Dades and the Atlantic coats. Entry Requirements:
Valid passport (must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry).
– Return or onward ticket (may be requested by immigration officers).
– Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter if staying with family/friends).
– Sufficient funds for the duration of stay.
– If staying beyond 90 days (after the tour), you must apply for an extension at a local Moroccan police station before your visa-free period expires.

Birding & cuisine during our Morocco birdwatching tours
£2100p/p – DETAILED ITINERARY – subject to change upon our discretion
DAY 1: ATLAS MOUNTAINS ASNI AND OUKAIMEDEN BIRD WATCHING TRIP FROM MARRAKECH:
Embark on a bird-watching adventure from Marrakech where we will pick you up from your hotel or the airport. Our journey will begin towards the Atlas Mountains where we can observe species such as Spotless Starling, House Bunting, Dekla Lark, Magpie, Grey Shrike, Rock Sparrow, Little Owl, and some Rock Doves. Next, we will continue to Atlas Mountains Asni to witness spectacular birds like Levaillant’s Green Woodpecker and Great Spotted Woodpecker. Afterward, we will drive to Lake Oukaimeden, where we hope to spot Alpine Chough, Crimson-winged Finch, White-crowned Wheatear, Black Wheatear, Mossier’s Redstart, and some ducks. Finally, we will have dinner, accommodation, and breakfast at a hotel in Marrakech.
DAY 2: FROM ATLAS MOUNTAINS – OUARZAZATE TO BOUMALNE DADES:
Our journey will take us to Tizi-n-Tichka, where we might catch a glimpse of Kestrel and Bonelli’s Eagle. We will then head to Amerzagane town to see some spectacular birds like Black Wheatear and Maghreb Wheatear. After that, we will visit the Mansour Eddahbi Barrage, where we should be able to observe Ruddy Shelduck, Black-winged Stilts, Marbled Ducks, Cormorants, Herons, and some Waders. Finally, we will have dinner, accommodation, and breakfast at a hotel in Boumalne Dades.
DAY 3: FROM BOUMALNE DADES – TAGDIL TRACK TO OUARZAZATE:
We will visit Tagdil Track, one of the famous places for bird watching in Morocco, to spot rare Eagle Owl, Cream Colored Courser, Trumpter Finch, Hoopoe Lark, Thick-billed Lark, Crowned Sandgrouse, and Black Wheatears. We will then return with some stops in different places to observe more birds and enjoy the view and beauty of the Atlas Mountains. Overnight in Ouarzazate.
Day 4: OUARZAZATE – M’HAMMID: THE DESERT
We spend two days in this areas which gives time to observe n the Desert, Draa Valley, and Anti-Atlas Mountains, the most important birds to observe are: Laughing Dove, Eurasian Hoopoe, Lanner Falcon, Barbary Falcon, Fulvous Babbler, Pharaoh Eagle-Owl, Greater Hoopoe-Lark, Desert Wheatear, White-crowned Wheatear, Bar-tailed Lark, Desert Lark, Desert Sparrow, Cream-coloured Courser, Maghreb Lark, and Moroccan White Wagtail. Overnight in M’Hammid.

DAY 5: ANTI-ATLAS SOUSS VALLEY TO AGADIR
We continue our long drive west over the Anti-Atlas Mountains towards the Souss Valley. We make many stops along the route looking for birds. Within the Souss Valley we will search for: Black-crowned Tchagra, Laughing Dove, Cirl Bunting, Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, and Spanish Sparrow. Migrant birds of prey are often seen along the valley with Short-toed Snake Eagle, Booted Eagle, Montagu’s Harrier, and Black Kite being the most likely species to be observed as will many migrating European passerines. We also have another good chance of finding the highly sought after Tristram’s Warbler. Overnight in Agadir.
DAY 6: AGADIR – OUED MASSA NATIONAL PARK
We will explore the coastal wetlands of the Oued Massa National Park, a highly productive area and home to a wide variety of resident and migrant species, with significant numbers of shorebirds (waders), wildfowl, gulls, terns, herons, egrets, birds of prey, and passerines possible. Key target species, including Black-crowned Tchagra, Marbled Duck, Moussier’s Redstart, Sardinian Warbler, Little Owl, Eurasian Stone-curlew, Laughing Dove, and Brown-throated Martin. Other notable species here include Garganey, Slender-billed Gull, Gull-billed Tern, Caspian Tern, Little Bittern, Glossy Ibis, Eurasian Spoonbill, Kentish Plover, Cream-colored Courser, Western Olivaceous Warbler, Western Black-eared Wheatear, Great Spotted Cuckoo, Mediterranean Short-toed Lark, and much more. Overnight in Agadir.
DAY 7: AGADIR AIRPORT
Depending on the return flights time, we can stop for a sport of birding before heading to the airport.

DAY 1: GIBRALTAR AIRPORT
We collect clients from Gibraltar airport and head to Tarifa, Spain, crossing the Strait in to Morocco. We birdwatching along the coast, overnight near Asilah.
DAY 2: OUED LOUKKOUS
A day birdwatching along the lower Loukkos river, which is often very productive. This river is particularly good for waders, egrets and also some Moroccan specialities, such as Brown-throated Martin and Moustached warbler. Overnight in Moulay Bousselham.
DAY 2: MOULAY BOUSSELHAM
An day out at the marshes of the Merja Zerga, Moulay Bousselham, supported by local guides, which will get us closer to birds on a small boat. In the evening we will visit other corners of this lake to try and see the very rare African Marsh Owl flying at dusk, follow ethical and respectful to see these delicate birds. Please do not expect to get really close views. Overnight near Kenitra.
DAY 3: SIDI BOURHABA
Later on we will travel north towards Kenitra, where the Sidi Bourhaba is a fantastic lake for birding. Here we will practice photography tips for Red-knobbed Coots and will also hopefully get nice views of Moroccan Magpie and Marbled Ducks. Overnight in the area of Merdja Zerga.
DAY 4: NORTHERN ATLANTIC COAST
We head north along the Moroccan Atlantic coast for some beautiful scenery, fresh seafood and many opportunities to observe many European migrants. Overnight near Asilah
DAY 5: STRAIT – GIBRALTAR
We head back to Tangier to cross the Strait of Gibraltar by ferry, with great opportunities to observe many migrant raptors. Gibraltar airport for an afternoon flight back to the UK.
