OVERVIEW
The strait of Gibraltar lies in a strategic location for birdwatching. Migration of passerines, large land birds and soaring birds & seabirds occurs almost year-round and the sheer numbers can be impressive in the peak seasons March-May & August-October.  Thousands of passerines migrate north and south across the Strait of Gibraltar. Soaring birds such as white or black storks. Birds of prey such as Honey Buzzards, Black Kites, Short-toed Eagles, Booted Eagles, Griffon Vultures, White & black storks, pass in their thousands, with smaller numbers Egyptian & Griffon Vultures, Marsh, Hen and Montagu’s Harriers, Sparrowhawk, Common Buzzards, Ospreys, Eleonora’s Falcon and many others.

BEST LIGHT AND POSITIONING
We know exactly where to to be positioned to obtained the best photos. With the years, one tends to develop a sort of ‘perceptive ability’ to be able to predict small changes in wind direction which would influence where the main passage will flow by in order to be best positioned to photograph these lovely birds. Choose your dates during the Spring and Autumn on a first come first served basis.

Beautiful scenery with kind knowledgeable guide This excursion was a highlight of our Mediterranean cruise. It was so nice to be away from the crowds and yet see so much. Andrew was great about communicating logistics. He is a great guide pointing out all the various birds. Sardinian warbler, honey buzzards, and swifts to name a few. Knowing them not only by sight, but also flight behavior and sound. I liked learning about some of the plants too like the Bear’s breeches. A bit of Gibraltar history was also welcome. I hope that one day we can participate in another trip offered by AvianTours.

Southern Spain and Gibraltar September 2024. My wife and I are wildlife enthusiasts but not experienced birders but we wanted to experience the southern migration of birds from Europe to Africa.I gave Andrew my requirements and dates and he planned a trip for us that included two days in the Monfrague National Park and five days in Southern Spain and Gibraltar. Andrew organised all transport and accomodation and we had a great tour.We would have only seen a fraction of our list without Andrew's expert knowledge. The highlights for us were the eagles, vultures and storks but the range of species seen was immense. I can thoroughly recommend Andrew as an expert guide and an interesting companion

Birding in Andalusia Andrew is a very knowledgeable and personable guide. We like an informative but relaxing tour while we bird watch, sightsee, and feast on local dishes and that's what Andrew provided. He explained ahead of time by email what documents we'd need to cross country borders, where we'd meet (he actually picked us up at our hotel) and inquired as to what we most hoped to see. It was a really good day and we plan on seeing Andrew, Gibraltar and Andalusia again. Thank you Andrew.

Birding Gibraltar with 86 Year Old Father Andrew did a wonderful job given the constraints presented. I'm sure that I would have had a great time birding the cemetery and/or Botanic Gardens but it would have been too much walking for my dad to handle so he wisely skipped them. We essentially circled the "Rock" twice. I would say that the Crag-Martins were the highlight of the day since they were abundant. We had a good time searching for birds at all of our stops but Europa Point probably had the most activity. We were able to see many of the normal tourist stops along the way so we felt that we had a well rounded visit. Andrews knowledge of the birds and Gibraltar was evident and made for an informative experience as well.

Bird Day Tours in Andalucia My wife and I, who are both experienced bird watchers, had two single day tours in Spain from our base in Gibraltar with Andrew. Both days produced a wealth of birds and for us eight lifetime firsts. Highlights for us was a spectacular low level Griffon and Ruppell vulture display by more than 20 birds, a marsh area with over 20 wader types including Flamingo and repeated views of four different species of eagles. A good sighting of five of the rare Bald Ibis was one of our lifers. Andrew's knowledge of birds and bird songs was excellent throughout. An added bonus was Andrew taking us to two excellent local restaurants close to the bird sites were we enjoyed local delicacies for lunch. We would recommend Andrew's company to anyone who wants to enjoy the birds of Andalucia.

Wonderful guide We flew to Gibraltar (landing at Malaga,) at the early edge of the fall migration and asked Andrew of Avian tours arrange everything from hotel pickup, to the hotel and birding schedule - the only work we did was to pack our field glasses. It was wonderful. Very accommodating, he arranged hotel specific to our needs and, well, what can I say: Andrew knows where and when the birds are likely to be found as only a local can. And the birding is greatly enhanced by his deep knowledge of Gibraltar, which he is willing to share with those who are interested.

Rain and wind, but excellent birds Andrew from Aviantours picked us up punctually close to the cruise port. As it was a rainy, windy day he gave us the option to cancel, which we declined. He was very knowledgeable about the birds of Gibraltar and the history of the area, as well as where to find the different species. I ticked 5 life birds off my list that day. We did hike up to the top of the rock, and even in bad weather that was a fun adventure. I highly recommend Aviantours for bird watching.

Brilliant Birdwatching Gibraltar Barbary Apes, dolphins and a terrific range of birding , including eleven new birds for me, made for a great day visiting Gibraltar with Andrew. He was tremendously helpful from the onset advising us on arrangements for accommodation with a good breakfast etc. Andrew was raised on Gibraltar and his knowledge of the history of the peninsula combined well with his outstanding ear for local birds. We covered most of the peninsula and saw birds in a variety of habitats. I’m extremely glad we arranged this trip. Andrew provided binoculars and a telescope for us, saving weight in our travel cases and drove us safely around. I couldn’t think of a better way of Birding in the area and Andrew’s knowledge was excellent.
